(The full story is available in my book, “The Last Casino”)
Here I am, just turned 21, a break-in dealer making minimum wage which was $1 an hour. Casinos were all new to me and the idea of dealing real money to live action petrified me. I watched good dealers deal craps in a heavy game and it looked like it would never be possible for me to develop the dexterity it took to make it. Little by little, under terrific stress, I slowly learned how to get through a busy crap game. At times my hands would sweat so much that the chips stuck together but that proud day came when I was made a full time craps dealer. I think back at how proud I was to have realized something I never dreamed I had a chance of accomplishing. I originally took the job just to earn enough money to get out of Las Vegas and return to Los Angeles. Now I made it I wouldn’t consider leaving for anything.
